Just a short distance from the Setiawangsa LRT station, opposite the Army Barrack homes, lies the Asam Pedas restaurant. This is a spin-off of the famous Malacca Asam Pedas shop in Tengkera, I think, although questioning the staff was a waste of time as none knew who they were working for nor the history behind the shop where they earned their living.
In any case, this restaurant's speciality is spicy soury fish curry rice. In the Malacca lingo, it is simply asam pedas. Although they serve many other dishes, I would like to recommend their asam pedas which comprises three types - beef, stingray and mackeral (tenggiri).
The dish comes with a plate of rice, half a salted egg, two slices of cucumber, chopped salad for garnish, and a bow of spicy curry, containing fish or beef. I tried the stingray, which is quite good and tender although the curry could be hotter.
They also serve dessert comprising Malay kuih indigenous to Malacca such as bengka and onde-onde (glutinous rice ball with palm sugar filling and coconut shavings for the skin). For about RM12.00 you could have a satisfying lunch. The ambience is pretty good too.

This is not ad good as the one in Tranquerah. The original one is better, hotter!
I've had the asam pedas at this outlet a couple of times. Not bad but of course, nothing beats the originality of asam pedas from Malacca.
Try out those served at the food stalls opposite the Navy Museum. These used to be along the main road (opposite Mahkota Parade) but had to make way for development projects.
Another place with great asam pedas is Muar, Johor. A little nondescript stall called Gerai Asam Pedas Kak Yah.
Agreed with you Ana. The or Malacca Asam Pedas is good. No doubt about it.
There's also a small Asam Pedas stall called "Asam Pedas Anak Jati Melaka" located in front of the lake at Sri Rampai. From the name of the stall, it is no doubt the original Asam Pedas. Though it's just a small stall, the place is always packed with people especially during lunch hour.

I love to go there and eat nasi goreng ikan masin..tapai ice cream and it alwoys every week.....yum2!!
But..i'm so disappointed on how their service the customer..well there r some lady that always expressing her bad mood (i think she is the manager of asam pedas)..always shouting and sometimes i saw she trowing things to the ground..herm,its bad and disturb me sometimes..i hope she would change herself..so customer can enjoy more on the meals..not the drama..
