A new fish dish outlet has just opened at the Rampai Business Park. It's called Rawang Fish. It occupies one of the many shops on the same row at the Canton Kitchen Chinese Restaurant. We decided to check out the place and found the prices quite okay. The fish fish for which it is famous is not much out of the ordinary except that the fish does not have that heavy 'earth smell'. Prices are okay. You can have a satisfying lunch for RM25 plus for two persons, inclusive of drinks.

Genting Kelang road divider a potential cause of more jams

IF you have been driving along Jalan Genting Kelang near the Pizza Hut junction, you would have seen that a divider has been built from the junction into Jalan Perusahaan until the traffic lights leading into Taman Forlong. The City Hall planners must have thought of this as a short-term measure to curb jams along Genting Kelang in  the mornings for traffic heading towards the city because if turning is allowed near Pizza Hut, then traffic would be held up.

However, they did not realise that by closing the breaks in the road, cars on Kenny Rogers/Pelangi Condo side of the road wishing to head to the city would have to make a U-turn at the Genting Kelang-Jalan Perusahaan junction. Since the traffic lights there have a habit of turning red too fast, jam is created here. It is only a matter of time when a long bottle neck happens to frustrate everyone.

If you crave banana leaf rice, no need to go to Sentul or Brickfields. Just go to Taman Seri Rampai, overlooking the lake, lies Mano's Mega Curry House, all orange and inviting. Open 24 hours, they serve banana leaf specialities. Anyone who has eaten there are most welcomed to share their views of the place.

New Budget Hotel In Rampai Business Park

If you have relatives or friends visiting you in Wangsa Maju area and are looking for accommodation, there is a new hotel which opened at a shoplot along the Rampai Business Park. How much the rates are, you will have to find out yourself.

Danger Along Jalan Perusahaan 4 - Selangor Pewter Factory Exit/Entrance

The yellow boxed area is a highly dangerous area with several accidents resulting from cars and buses coming out of the factory and perpendicular traffic. Motorists (such as the motorcylist at right) have become casualty of their own ignorance. Be careful when using this road!
This is a very dangerous area in front of the Selangor Pewter factory. As you can see, the bike at the right is already a casualty of a car emerging from the factory. If you are using this road (Jalan Perusahaan 4) as a bypass, drive slowly. If you are in Selangor Pewter premises, coming out, go slow. Speed demons crossing this stretch have paid dearly with their limbs. I hope City Hall will be wise enough to paint a yellow box at this junction or at least have yellow bars to inform motorists to slow down as they approach the factory entrance/exit before someone gets killed.

Tour buses and factory vehicles come out unannounced. Drive slowly when on this road.

Rampai Lake Fruit Stalls Removed

The row of shops that comprised fruit stalls beside the Taman Seri Rampai lake has been removed and hoardings have just come up. There are a few shops that have yet to move. According to sources, new blocks of commercial buildings are coming up. One begins to wonder how will the neighbouring roads and the main Jalan Genting Kelang be able to contain such huge rise in traffic. Has City Hall given thought to this?

There had been a spate of new development areas sprouting up around the Wangsa Maju area. This one is at Taman Seri Rampai at an area used to be occupied by thick undergrowth. You wont recognise it now - with its shoplots and eateries. I bet Wangsa Maju has the most happening places in the whole of KL per sqaure kilometre. Agree?

Suspended Lance Corporal suspected to be car thief!

KUALA LUMPUR: Suspended from work for drug-related offences, a lance corporal supplemented his income with a string of wayside robberies in Setapak and Wangsa Maju.

His robbery spree came to an end on Thursday when the policeman and an accomplice were arrested by Sentul policemen on crime prevention rounds in Taman Sri Rampai.

The suspects, both aged 25, were nabbed about 11.30pm after they were found with a knife and a pair of handcuffs when searched by the police.

A motorcycle, which had been reported stolen in Ampang last year, was also seized from them.

The men have been remanded until Tuesday to facilitate investigations.
Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Zakaria Pagan said at least five cases of wayside robberies in the Setapak and Wangsa Maju area had been solved with the duo's arrest.

The robbers normally approached their victims and identified themselves as policemen before robbing them.

Thanks to a reader, this blog has been informed that there are wheel stealers near the LRT station at Section 2. Several motorists who left their cars there came back from work to find the wheels of their cars missing.

Can we hope that the LRT operators beef up the security in the area? Already, there are CCTV cameras in Section 2. How about the LRT operator mounting some from the LRT beams to keep an eye on the cars of your customers? This is good customer service and will encourage more to take your LRT to work instead.

Smelly Towfoo At Sri Rampai Pasar Malam

If you visit the Taman Seri Rampai night market on Thursdays and smell a rat - or rather, smell shit - be comforted to know that you have not stepped on human excrement nor are near a sewage pond.



You are in the vicinity of a Chow Tow Foo or Smelly Tow Foo vendor. I wont tell you where this fella is located, so you will have to sniff him down. For clues, I have provided his pictures. And if you can stand the smell, maybe you would also like to stomach the fermented beancurd fried. And if he asks where you learnt about him, tell him you read him here first.

Look Where You Are Going When In Taman Seri Rampai

Friend, just a word of advice: If you are going to the Pasar Malam on Thursday nights or having your lunch in broad daylight at Taman Seri Rampai, be careful about this stretch (above) in front of Guardian pharmacy and Ayam Bing.

This road divider has weak cemented part covering a big drain beneath. People have fallen in and mind you, it will be really 'suay' if should you be next.

Look at the exposed reinforcement mesh (picture below) - who made this poor quality pavement? The authorities should look into who the contractors were and who gave out the contract.

Public money is being wasted - never mind - but some innocent fella is going to lose a limb should he or she step into this lobang! Can the good Mayor or MP come do a site visit?

Why Is The Authority Wasting Money Digging Up Well-Tarred Roads In Wangsa Maju?

This one's along the road from Section One towards the Shell Station near Selangor Pewter.

Have you kept your eyes on the road in Wangsa Maju lately? I have and I dont like what I saw. Snakes (or rivers if you wish) of newly tarred patches have appeared everywhere.

This one is poorly patched, no doubt.

The roads were tarred before the March 8 elections when the BN reprsentative was in charge. Now, services companies have dugged up the newly tarred roads and doing one heck of a lousy job in some areas patching them up. You see hundreds of metres long tarred strips criss-crossing the roads, posing a danger to cyclists and motorcyclists as they trap water after rain.

I wonder if the local Member of Parliament is keeping tabs on this. Because if he does, I hope he can bring up the problems with the authorities because not only money gets spent unnecessarily, the residents of Wangsa Maju are also inconvenienced and their lives put at risk in some areas.

Are there fish in Taman Sri Rampai lake?

Whenever I pass by this lake at Taman Sri Rampai, I would see some angler casting their lines into the waters and waiting patiently for god-knows-what. A bite, perhaps? Are there fish?

As far as I know, the lotuses are plentiful and fruiting too. If you like the bulbs, you can pick some by the lake's edge. Deeper ones are a danger because the water in some areas are not as shallow as it appears. There are also lotus fruits to enjoy, especially if you like the seeds raw. During the flowering season, March through May, the pink flowers that carpet the lake's surface is a sight to behold.

But fish?

Several years ago, City Hall threw a fishing competition here and released some patins. Rumour is still going around that there are some huge ones lurking in the waters, waiting stupidly to bite onto the baits of some lucky angler. Believe it or not, up to you. But every single angler I see there each day amazes me no end how some people could keep their hopes up every single day!



ps: This I know - there used to be lots of emerald chiclids that can be reared as aquarium fish here in the past. Not anymore.

Taman Sri Rampai

Taman Sri Rampai is a slightly more "upmarket" housing area with its houses (terraced double-storeys) being more expensive than the cluster houses at Taman Setapak Jaya. The residents here are predominantly Chinese and the residential area surrounds a bustling business district where a bank, shops and other amenities are located.

There is a multi-storey Rampai Business Centre which is struggling with its occupancy with only the ground floor being occupied by business ranging from phone shops and pharmacies to tailors and opticians.

The only multi-storey accommodation here is the Rampai Court Apartments - a four to five-storey walk-up gated apartment complex of several blocks. Half of it sits on a hillock behind which is the up-market condominium Desa Putra.

Neighbouring Taman Seri Rampai are low cost flats overlooking the lake where lotuses can be seen all year round. It used to be an abandoned lake till City Hall in 2007 rebuilt it and introduced a fountain as well as jogging paths and trees as part of the refurbishment.
