Pick A Number And Wait Your Turn

The stall sells all sorts of rice and dishes.
If there is anything Malaysians need to be educated on, then it must be to wait in queue. At this nasi stall in Taman Melawati on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, you had better get your number before being served. The makcik sells nasi dagang, nasi kerabu and nasi minyak - all from Kelantan. The rice come with various dishes and those who did not get a number will not be entertained. Anyone tried this stall? Verdict please!
Take a number (inset). No number, no sale.

This Woman Needs Help

If you are familiar with the Air Panas Pasar Malam on Monday evenings, you will be familiar with this woman. She can be seen sitting by the side of the road, cradling a sleeping baby, which I presume is her own. Sometimes she breast feeds the baby. From her looks, she did not appear to be handicapped in any limb. One wonders why she is here week after week. The Women's Aid Organisation, I understand, helps women who are disadvantaged. How about helping this woman?

Smelly Towfoo At Sri Rampai Pasar Malam

If you visit the Taman Seri Rampai night market on Thursdays and smell a rat - or rather, smell shit - be comforted to know that you have not stepped on human excrement nor are near a sewage pond.

You are in the vicinity of a Chow Tow Foo or Smelly Tow Foo vendor. I wont tell you where this fella is located, so you will have to sniff him down. For clues, I have provided his pictures. And if you can stand the smell, maybe you would also like to stomach the fermented beancurd fried. And if he asks where you learnt about him, tell him you read him here first.

Bandaraya Truck Breaking The Law

If you are wondering why some people break the law so easily, you can stop doing so now. Just look at this picture - that's a bandaraya truck you are looking at. It is parked at the Danau Kota Midnight Bazaar site opposite Ganda Dua restaurant.

Look now at the wheels. There is a yellow line and you think it should park there? No wonder other motorists are following suit.

Freshly Made Putu Mayam in Air Panas (Hot Springs)

Putu mayam, hot from the steamer and best eaten with palm sugar.

Ever wondered where you could find freshly made string hoppers or better known among us as putu mayam? Well, wonder no more. Just drop by the Air Panas night market every Monday.

Situated at the other end (away from the wet market) is an Indian chap I called Anei who makes killer putu mayam. You can watch him prepare the string hoppers over an upturned rattan basket which he uses as a receptacle to steam this traditional Indian delicacy.

He also make steamed curry puffs if you are interested. These are like our curry puffs, except that the filling is sweet and contains generrous amounts of coconut shavings and black sugar. Best time to visit him is before 9pm. By 10pm, he's all sold out.

Anei busy making steamed curry puffs. They are white in contrast to traditional ones which are yellow because they have been fried.

Air Panas Pasar Malam

Air Panas Night Market

On Mondays, there is a night market along the road beside the day market. Specifically, it is at the perimeter of the field and not far from the Air Panas girls' school. It operates from 6pm to 11pm nightly. Things are pretty cheap and there is a variety of Chinese and Indian traders. The makcik selling nasi lemak, the lone Malay trader, does a roaring business. Also don't miss the Indian string hopper maker near the field. He makes good steam curry puffs as well.
