Desa Setapak Hawker Centres Reduced To Rubble!

The arrows mark those that have been removed. Two other, diagonally opposite these two, have also been removed.

I was shocked! Today, at the round about in Desa Setapak, four hawker centers lining the four corners of the roundabout were reduced to rubble.

The concrete structures were gone and upon enquiry, this blogger was informed that City Hall had removed the structures yesterday. Where the hawkers are going to trade is left to be seen. Why the structures were removed is for you to wonder.

One would assume that it was to act against illegal hawking. If so is the case, then good for enforcement. But are more illegal hawkers going to be pulled up and their illegal structures removed? Let's wait and see if those at Section One will be dealt the same fate.
And what about those near Section 6, a shout's distance from the 7-11? During the mornings, motorists park indiscriminately to buy nasi lemak. And what about the illegal stretch from Taman Sri Rampai towards Selangor Pewter? If I remember correctly, this piece of land was unoccupied until the fruit stalls take over. Do they have licence or are they going to suffer the same fate? Let's wait and watch.

I still wondering, why all of the sudden those DBKL idiots did that. Especially, only to those hawker centres that were runned by Chinese. They've been there for years. What about those Malay stalls just outside the LRT station? Are those legal ? Shouldn't those DBKL do the same to them as well ?? Sigh...

Now there's less place for me to eat. =.="

The hawker site has been around for ages and DBKL, apparently feigning miscommunication (see yB Wee’s blog) or ‘mis SMSing’ decided to take action by demolishing it. Well, they couldn’t find a better timing to make yB Wee look bad!!

MCA Wangsa Maju is no better – they knew it all along but stood with folded arms watching the livelihood of the hawkers shredded to bits. Yet, they always say that they fight for the Chinese as their party’s battle cry, year in year out. I bet the ex-MP and his gang must be laughing with glee, unashamedly, at the expense of the affected hawkers.

MCA Wangsa Maju shouldn’t be let off the hook for this fiasco – they failed to address the hawkers problem while they were in power and as sore losers, they let yB Wee take the brunt of the whole thing.

Let it be known too that Taman Setapak’s Pasar Malam’s closure has nothing to do with yB Wee’s winning the WM seat – the thoroughfare is nearing completion and it wouldn’t make sense to maintain the weekly Pasar Malam site. Beside, these days most people don’t like the idea of a Pasar Malam situated right in front of their doorstep!

in my opinion, dbkl should enforce it a long time ago, the traffic now becomes smoother especially during peak hours, when people go to work or come back home.

STUDENT@MALAYSIA-STUDENT.com (BERSIH MALAYSIA)
MCA (DATUK YIP KUM FOOK, MCA CHAIRMAN GOMBAK) INSULTED and ANTI BUDDHIST MONKS
Dear Devotees into the Dhamma,
I sincerely shall use the language to make publicly the bitter experience that actually has happened in the SAMNAK SAMBODHI BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION NO: 19-21 JALAN 38 TAMAN DESA JAYA KEPONG 52100 KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA.
I am not satisfied with the Gombak MCA Division chairman (Yip Kum Fook) and the SAMNAK SAMBODHI BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION chairman (Yip Kum Fook) because he used vicious and arrogant means in bringing in a group of individuals from other places to provoke and trample the sacred ground and without any sound reason called in the police to forcefully detain the monk so as to humiliate worshippers of Buddhism.
I strongly would like to ask here that what great sin and crimes had he committed to the extent of you Yip Kum Fook lawyer by means or by crooks called in the police to detain a monk like him?
I came from Penang, I was a newcomer and I temporarily put up at the SAMNAK SAMBODHI BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION to study and learn to practice Buddhism. While at the temple, I could not bear with the way Yip Kum Fook lawyer behaved, your uncourteous, arrogant and unexcelled attitude in treating the Temple abbot.
Because I said a few words about your behavior to you Yip Kum Fook, you resorted to such dirty means to hurt a monk. It is indeed unacceptable and cast a very bad example.
For a school principal, if his and her student has committed an offence, the police must as a matter of courtesy meet up with the principal, try to understand the actual situation, before the police take any actions. This is the usual practice.
But it is sorry to say, that Yip kum Fook lawyer who himself is a lawyer chose to have done. Otherwise, he did not act in accordance with the teaching of Buddhism and looked down on the spirit of Buddhism for the sole purpose of showing off that he is the powerful chairman of MCA Gombak Division and the chairman of the SAMNAK SAMBODHI BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION. He demanded the police to detain the monk so as to realize his motive.
It is very fortunate that due to the fact that religion itself is a sensitive matter, even the Malay policemen understood and respected the religion, culture and customs of other communities, so they did not rush into taking any actions. Otherwise, the consequences would be catastrophic.
I understand why Yip Kum Fook lawyer was furious and flared up. The main reason is as follows. The abbot of the SAMNAK SAMBODHI BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION. He has been the abbot for 20 years. He was the architect and played the pivotal in raising fund the public to build up the Temple.
